The dataset contains monthly revenue data (in Lac ₹) for 16 different locations/branches across India from
December 2022 to March 2023.
Revenue is reported for each branch, with values ranging from as low as ₹1.06 Lac (Kochi in March 2023) to
as
high as ₹73.78 Lac (Chennai in January 2023).
The data covers a 4-month period, allowing for temporal and geographical revenue analysis.
Hypothesis Development:
Let's consider India's regional economic characteristics and seasonal variations to develop hypotheses about
revenue patterns:
1. Seasonal Revenue Hypothesis:
Winter (December-February): Potentially lower revenue due to:
Agricultural slowdown in many regions
Post-festival season economic cooldown
Reduced commercial activities in some sectors
Summer (March-May): Potential revenue variations due to:
Increased economic activities in certain sectors
Agricultural harvesting seasons in some regions
Beginning of financial year preparations
2. Regional Economic Variation Hypothesis:
Metropolitan Areas (Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bangalore): Likely to show more stable revenues due to:
Diverse economic ecosystems
Technology and service sector dominance
Less dependency on seasonal economic factors
Agrarian Regions (Bihar, North East): Might show more significant seasonal revenue fluctuations based on:
Key Insight: The South region dominates with
32.2% of total revenue, driven by high-performing Chennai (₹64.33 in Dec 2022). The
East follows with 20.1%, largely due to Kolkata’s strong performance (₹42.33
in Dec 2022). The West and North contribute ~9-10%, while the
Central region (Chattisgarh) has the smallest share.
2. Region with Most Month-to-Month Volatility
South
Bangalore: Dropped 27% from Dec 2022 (₹14.93) to March 2023 (₹10.85).
Chennai: Peaked at ₹73.78 (Jan 2023) but fell to ₹57.64 (March 2023), a 22%
decline.
East
Kolkata: Fluctuated between ₹42.33 (Dec 2022) and ₹37.26 (Feb 2023), with a 12%
drop in Jan 2023.
West
Indore: Surged from ₹19.03 (Dec 2022) to ₹25.50 (Jan 2023), then dropped to ₹13.21 (March
2023) – a 48% decline.
North
Lucknow: Fell from ₹17.08 (Dec 2022) to ₹13.69 (March 2023), a 20%
decline.
Key Insight: The South and West regions show the
highest volatility due to drastic drops in Bangalore and Indore. Chennai
(South) and Kolkata (East) are stable anchors for their regions.
